This week I am underway in Spain in the Volta a Catalunya. On the opening stage I could bring in a good second place. When it was obvious that Thomas de Gendt would win and the field lost its momentum, I went for my luck in a solo break and in the end could save a small advantage over the on-charging field. With this second place I was also able to take the lead in the young rider ranking.
On today's stage things went equally well. In the finale, on the final climb of the day, which had the characteristics of an Ardennes Classic, I again successfully attacked. But I was alone in front and decided to wait, since the chances were slim that I could defend my gap on the difficult run-into the finish with headwind. After I was caught, I went for the sprint and finished fourth.
Tomorrow is the first really hard mountain stage and the race goes through next Sunday. I am interested to see how it goes. Yours, Maximilian.
